RATHER THAN A GROUP OF PRACTITIONERS IN THE SERVICE OF INDUSTRY, DESIGNERS NEED TO SEE THEMSELVES AS CONNECTIVE TISSUE – TRANSLATING BETWEEN STAKEHOLDERS, REFRAMING PROBLEMS, REVEALING OPPORTUNITIES AND CHAMPIONING CHANGE.

Eating Local

This self-published campaign instructs on how and why to eat more sustainably. Choosing foods sourced from one's own area is one of the most significant things one can do to positively impact the environment, economy, and health.

Once the project broke even, hundreds of guides were donated to local non-profits.

I work, in my practice and teaching, at harnessing design as a tool for doing good. Here are a small selection of projects I've been proud to initiate and/or work on.

Pasadena Courthouse Mural

A service-learning project with 12 students, this 8 ft. x 32 ft. mural enlivens an otherwise dreay cafeteria space where court-goers break from their cases being heard.

Embracing Our Differences

This is one of many submissions for the annual Embracing Our Differences competition in support of diversity and acceptance.

Feminism Is NOT a Bad Word

This self-published poster series strives to educate people on the meaning of the word 'feminist', and why it's a label we should all proudly wear. Sales of the posters benefit the women's center at the university where I teach..

Viewpoint #nofilter

Students were asked to respond to news headlines in visual terms, and their solutions were compiled into this tabloid newpaper format zine. Multiple copies were made for each person to distribute as they wished.

Bites for Rights

I volunter design services in support of the LGBTQ community whenever I can. This fun campaign for Basic Rights Oregon promoted one of their annual fundraising events, Bites for Rites, where hundreds of local restaurnat give a portion of proceeds to the organization.
